James Callahan Obituary

James Murray Callahan Jr. "Jimmy" passed away on February 2, 2021 from complications due to lung cancer. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He has battled chemo, radiation, and brain surgery. He will be forever missed by everyone that knew and loved him. He is now at peace with no pain and suffering. He fought the good fight. Even though Jimmy was only 76 years old he lived a full life. He served proudly in Vietnam in the US army as an Army Medic with the 95th Evacuation Hospital. He owned his own business starting with J&J Home Supply, Real Cajun Spoons, and Bubba's Spoon Factory. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking, and would tell stories of growing up spending summers in Morgan City with his family. He was so knowledgeable about so many things, especially growing a garden. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, James and Katherine Callahan. He is survived by his wife, Denise Brittain Callahan who adored him; two daughters, Jeanne Nance (Jerry) of Rowlett, TX, and Susan Useman (Andy) of Ponchatoula, LA; and son, James M. Callahan III of Central, LA. He is also survived by his two stepdaughters, Monique Wallace (Miah) and Britney Knight (Jeff), and a stepson, Brett Gerald, all of Central, LA; two sisters, Jeanette Mcgurk (John), Mary Lodrigue; and a brother, Patrick Callahan. His life really starting having meaning when his surviving grandchildren were born, Nicholas, Katie, and Jacob Nance, and Elizabeth Useman; his step grandchildren, Kennedy, Reagan, Carter, Ivy, and Ryker Wallace, and Addison and Bailey Knight. He is also survived by his special friends, Charlie Greer, Lloyd Lodrigue, Bob Hebert, and Sharon Callahan. Special thanks to Dr. Bryan Bienvenu and staff at Mary Bird Perkins for all their love and support. Central Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy was my neighbor for about 20 years. He was a fine man with vast knowledge of many things. I enjoyed our conversations immensely. He battled his sickness like a true warrior. God Bless him & his family.
