CUTRER, JOHN N. John Newt Cutrer, 64, of Baton Rouge, died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. A private memorial service for the family will be held at a future date. Interment will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Mr. Cutrer was born July 22, 1940, in Hattiesburg, Miss., a son of June Newt and Ruby Rushing Cutrer, who preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Quita Cutrer of Baton Rouge; his son, Roger Cutrer of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Julie Gay of Urbana, Ill., and Rhonda Long of College Station, Texas; stepchildren, Chari McCardle of Baton Rouge and Brent McCardle of Willow Springs, N.C.; former wife, JoAnn Cutrer of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren and a stepgrandchild. Also surviving are three brothers, June L. Cutrer of Leonard, Texas, Jack H. Cutrer of Baton Rouge and Hebron D. Cutrer of San Antonio; four sisters, Mary Jeanette Noble Jenkins and Cherry Hilborn, both of Baton Rouge, Dorothy Howell of Houston and Judith Cutrer of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie June Cutrer. Mr. Cutrer was a local businessman and entrepreneur who graduated from LSU in January 1962, with a bachelor of science degree in economics. He was the founder of EyeMasters Inc., one of the original one-hour optical concept chains. In recent years, he participated in the Visiting Business Executives Program of the E.J. Ourso College of Business at LSU. Those who knew him will say Mr. Cutrer led a full, energetic life, loved to tell jokes, was not afraid to take risks, and enjoyed good food, good wine and good times with family and friends. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.
