John Goode Obituary

John Edward Goode, a life-long resident of Batchelor, Louisiana, died unexpectedly on June 1st, 2023, near his home. John was born in New Roads, Louisiana, on January 31, 1959, was a 1977 graduate of False River Academy, and attended a post-technical program after high school. He was an active member of St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. John spent his adult days in the field as a farmer, rancher, and leader in Pointe Coupee Parish. In 1991, John was one of the first farmers to bring sugarcane farming back to the northern end of Pointe Coupee Parish, one he would continue for 32 years. He proudly served as a long-term member of the American Sugar Cane League. An active member of the community, he was a board member of the Pointe Coupee Farmer's Co-op, FSA County Office Committee, and former Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee School Board member. John completed the LSU Ag Leadership Conference, his favorite amongst many professional development opportunities. He proudly sponsored Pointe Coupee parish youth through 4-H livestock competitions and activities. However, Big John's self-proclaimed "best accomplishment" would be teaching his 5 grandchildren about life on the farm. John is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Brenda Kimble Goode, and beloved dog, Bella. He leaves behind 2 daughters, Miranda Ferreira (Lane) of Fernandina Beach and Megan Pourciau (Corey) of Livonia; 5 grandchildren: John Landry, Ben and Sawyer Ferreira and Olivia and Caden Pourciau. John is also survived by his brother Michael "Mike" Goode (Mary), sisters Laura "Mozelle" Berg (David) and Martha Rowzee, and numerous nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Joyce Goode of Batchelor. Visitation will be Monday, June 5th, at 9 a.m. at St Ann's Catholic Church in Morganza, Louisiana. Visitation will be followed by Christian burial at 11:30 a.m. and will be officiated by Father Babu Nalkara. The family would like to thank the entire Pointe Coupee Parish community, friends, and extended family for all the donations and signs of support during this time. Pallbearers will be Corey Pourciau, Lane Ferreira, Jason Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Mike Goode, Van Debetaz, and George Lacour. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Lambert, Paul Schexnayder, Champ Claiborne, and his grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul or Pointe Coupee 4H in his name.
