Joseph Philibert Lorio M.D.

He died Thursday afternoon, Aug. 16, 2007, at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va., at the age of 65. Dr. Joseph "Phil" Lorio was a resident of Carrboro, N.C., since his retirement in 2001. Previously he had been a resident of Fairfax, Va., and a practicing psychiatrist in Falls Church, Va. He was on the faculty of the Georgetown Family Center in Washington, D.C. for many years. Phil Lorio was a native of New Roads. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Pujo Lorio and Udell Jewell Lorio. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jeanne Genre Lorio; his children, Dr. William P. Lorio and his wife, Amy Lorio, and Renee Lorio Murphy and her husband, Sean Murphy. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Connor and Claire Murphy, Benjamin and Caroline Lorio; a sister, Jewell Rose Lorio; a brother, Samuel Paul Lorio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to visitation on Thursday, Aug. 23, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Walkers Funeral Home, 102 W. Franklin St., Chapel Hill, N.C. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael St., Chapel Hill.
