Dr. Vandeveer was a professor of mine in the mid 80's. He taught me several classes, was an advisor to my academic life and still remains a fond memory of my time a LSU. I still remember his style of teaching and some of his presentations in my daily work. His teaching have helped me to think as a economist as I do my daily job of helping farmers and running a seed company. He will truly be missed at LSU.

My sincere condolences to the Vandeveer family. I learned of Lonnie's passing and it saddened me. He was a kind, caring and helpful individual, and a professors at LSU's College of Agriculture that students were drawn to due to his nurturing nature. I know we will miss him, but I also realize that he touched many lives during his time on this Earth, and therefore, will live in the hearts, memories, and actions of scores of individuals everywhere.

The Vandeveer Family,

I was saddened yesterday to learn of Lonnie's death. I've known Lonnie both personally and professionally for over 30 years. While I did not know Lonnie then, I think we were both at OSU during our undergraduate years. I will always remember those special times at the Southern and American meetings (typically this was when I would see and interact with Lonnie) when Lonnie and the LSU crowd (Henning, Paxton, Luzar, and Hughes)would gather. Please know that my thoughts are with you over the coming months and years as you cope with this tragic loss.

Dr. Vandeveer was a perseverant man with conviction as his great driving force, always willing to help and advice. “While shaking hands and taking leave from his office, he said to me in the fall of 2002: persevere, work hard, and you will get what you want” an advice that always will remember. I audited one of his classes in 2002; he showed a great eagerness to share his knowledge. Whatever life takes us, Dr. Vandeveer, you will live for ever in our memories!

Dr. Vandeveer was one of the greatest professors to ever grace the classrooms of LSU. He was not only my teacher but also a trusted advisor in many things academic and personal for the past 4 years. He was an inspiration to me as well as to anyone who had the pleasure of working with him. The impact that Dr. Vandeveer had on his students was phenomenal. The AgBusiness department won't be the same without him; he will be missed by all. My condolences go out to the Vandeveer family in your time of sorrow. My prayers are with you.
