MacArthur Johnson Obituary

"The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1. MacArthur Johnson was born May 27, 1946, in Ethel to the union of Earline Bates Johnson and Emmitt Johnson Sr. MacArthur, also known as "Mac," departed this life on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Ollie Steele Hospice Butterfly Wing. Mac accepted Christ at an early age. Mac was a U.S. Army veteran and a devoted employee of Exxon Mobil Chemical Plant for more than 30 years until his retirement. Mac will be missed by all who loved and cared for him. He leaves to mourn his passing a son, Fredrick Johnson Sr. and wife Tina, of Baker; a sister, Mattie B. Scott, of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Emmitt Johnson Jr. and wife Mary Ann, of Baton Rouge, and Eldridge Johnson and wife Oretha, of Baker; three grandchildren, Jeremy and Fredrick Johnson, both of Baker, and Brandon Pratt, of Baton Rouge; a stepgranddaughter, LaShonda Cage, of Baker; two great-grandchildren; two aunts, Deloris McManus and Gloria Bates, both of Baton Rouge; mother-in-law, Lillie Bell Hayes; father-in-law, John Hayes; sister-in-law, Deloris Johnson; five nieces, Shronderlette, Debra, Joyce, Trina and Glenda; four nephews, Cedric, Treg, Robert Jr. and Neil; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends. Mac was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Johnson; parents, Earline Bates Johnson and Emmitt Johnson Sr.; a sister, Mattie B. Goudeau; four brothers, Robert Sr., Roy, Alcee and Jerome Johnson; and a brother-in-law, Johnny Hayes. Religious service at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 9700 Scenic Highway, on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m., officiated by Jesse B. Bilberry Jr., pastor.
