Mattie Sue Sherrouse

Mattie Sue Sherrouse, beloved Mother and friend passed on, October 9, 2021 at the age of 94 in Baton Rouge, LA. She was born in Delhi, LA to Clarice and Clarence Detro. She was raised in Harmon, LA along with brothers Clarence Earl and Randall Augustus now both deceased. Cherished highlights of her early years were attending Grand Bayou School, playing tennis and roller skating on LA Hwy 1. She was the first Bachelor of Science graduate of the medical technology program of Northwestern State University. Mattie Sue married Chevis Webb Sherrouse in 1955 and started a family. Soon they moved their young family to Baton Rouge. Later Chevis passed on and she returned to medical technology as a means of supporting her family. Mattie Sue's retirement interests included knitting, traveling, walking at 'The Lake' and visiting friends. Her coffee pot was always on to welcome visitors. Her time and energy was given to family and friends. Mattie Sue was on your side even in difficult times. Her open and encouraging heart was ready to listen. Her homecoming was an elegant and abundant table. She is survived by her four children, Karen (Martin Wood), William, Carmen and Charles (Ellen McDowell). In her last years, she was a resident of St. James Place. The family expresses appreciation to the staff and the 'Physical Therapy Girls.' Mattie Sue has been interned at Oakley Cemetery Gilbert, LA.
