Mildred Kelley Obituary

A native of Walker and a longtime resident of Denham Springs, Mildred Marie Thornton Kelley passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Erastus Thornton and Mary Etta May Thornton; her beloved husband of over 64 years, Warren A. "Pete" Kelley, Sr.; her son, Gary Keith Kelley; and 10 brothers and sisters. She is survived by four sons, Warren A. "Joe" Kelley, Jr. (Cindy), Roger Stephen (KaRetha), Timothy Dwaine, and Mark Benjamin; her grandchildren, Morgan Kelley Thomas (Herb), Chase Myers (Kelly), Erin Kelley Smith (Justin), Laura Kelley Wilson (Trevor), and Stephen Kelley; and numerous great grandchildren, including Destiny, Trevor, Harley, and Baby Myers (and honorary great-granddaughter Zoey Wilson), John and Elizabeth Smith, Matthew Wilson, and Killian Thomas. She is also survived by her loving brother, Lee Thornton (Sherry) and numerous devoted cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mildred was the youngest of 12 children and she was happiest surrounded by family. She was a nurturer, doting on her grandchildren, caring for many pets, and tending her garden for many years. She was extremely devoted to her Christian faith and always enjoyed getting out and being social with her husband Pete. Her family would like to extend special thanks to her niece, Margaret Carter and husband Will, for their loving attention and care in her declining years. Her life will be remembered in a service led by Pastor Mark Carroll of South Walker Baptist Church at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, at 1 p.m. Friday, January 26. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the start of service. Burial will follow immediately thereafter at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandson, Stephen Kelley, and her grandsons-in-law, Justin Smith, Herb Thomas, and Trevor Wilson. Grandson Chase Myers is honorary pallbearer. Aunt Mildred is no longer in pain and walking the streets of gold with Jesus. Praise God! I will always remember your kind and sweet spirit. The memories of our trip to Louisiana to your house will always hold a special place in my heart. May God give the rest of the family peace and comfort in this time of grief.
