Otis Miller Obituary

Otis O. Miller, 97, passed peacefully at home with family on June 14, 2021. He was born on April 27, 1924, at home on the family farm in Poplarville, MS. He was the oldest of six children. Upon graduating high school in May 1943, he volunteered for the Army Air Force and became a Bombadier. After the war he used the GI Bill to return to college where he studied to be a Bombadier at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN where he graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation he moved to Baton Rouge, LA where he married and raised his family and was an Associate with Bovay Engineers for more than 35 years. He was a partner of Mid-South Telecommunications for over 30 years. Farming and the family farm were his lifelong passion besides his family. He farmed all of his life and loved growing tons of vegetables and fruit. He was a very good cook who loved making sausage every year for most of his life as well as all the other recipes passed down from his parents. Upon retiring he began growing blueberries and enjoyed selling them commercially. He was an avid lifelong pool player. He loved being on the farm and loved having family and friends visit and enjoy the farm as well. He enjoyed travelling with his wife and family members all over the United States in his motorhome and always thrilled to return to the farm. He was blessed to spend nearly 30 years on his favorite place in the world, the farm, after his retirement. He is preceded in death earlier this year by his wife of 65 years Ann H. Miller. Also preceded in death by his parents Francis "Griff" G. Miller and Effie E. Miller, two brothers, Lavon Miller and Curtis Miller, three sisters, Myrtis Miller Neff, Marilyn Miller Holcomb and Bobbie Nell Miller Johnson as well as by his granddaughter Allison Ann Miller. Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughters, Carol Miller and Sharon Miller Turner and husband Joe, his son David Miller and wife Renee, all of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by three granddaughters Jessi Miller Ruble and husband Charlie, Baton Rouge, Caitie Miller Culver and husband Jeremy, Brooklyn, NY and Lindsey Miller, Washington, D.C. and three great-grandchildren Gabe Ruble, Henry Ruble and Cecilia Culver. Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 9:30 am until graveside services at 10:30 am. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of his many doctors, nurses and caregivers over the years.
