Richard Stevenson Obituary

Stevenson, Richard G. "Dick" Richard G. "Dick" Stevenson died at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, after a long battle with respiratory disease. Dick was a native of Franklinton, born to Gladys and Bert Stevenson on Nov. 26, 1931. He and his family have been residents of Baton Rouge since 1957. He is survived by his wife, Betty Dupont Stevenson; daughter and son-in-law, Charmaine and David LaCoste of Baton Rouge; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Lane and Serena Stevenson of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Lindsey Stevenson of Baton Rouge; and daughter and son-in-law, Leslie and David Shreve of Charlottesville, Va. Dick leaves eight grandchildren, Claire Levert, Eleté Tridico, Renee LaCoste, Brad LaCoste, Emma Shreve, Julia Shreve, Patsy Stevenson and Wayne Stevenson. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and William Stephens; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Franklinton High School, served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and attended LSU. He served as an office manager for Sunbeam Bakery for more than 25 years and held the Zapp's distributorship for the Baton Rouge area for 17 years before retiring. He enjoyed sports, traveling and visiting his children and relatives. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday, June 25, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday, June 26, at noon, celebrated by the Rev. Mike Moroney. Visitation at the church on Monday from 10:15 a.m. until service time. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Brad LaCoste, Dale Couvillon, Bert Stephens, Lee Dupont, David Dupont and John Dupont. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Irby Dupont, Clayton Dupont, William Stephens and Ray Tullos. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cancer Society of Baton Rouge, Spina Bifida Foundation or the Heart and Lung Association.
