Jason McKenzie Obituary

Jason Patrick McKenzie, 45 went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, May 2.

Jason was the son of Becky Brown McKenzie and the late Donald Harris McKenzie. Jason was the loving husband of Stephanie Cox McKenzie and the adoring father of Patrick Harris McKenzie.

Jason was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on February 23, 1979. At age 2 he moved with his parents to Augusta, Georgia, his family's home. He attended public school in Columbia County graduating from Lakeside High School in 1998. Jason was an avid golfer and won the individual golf medal at the Georgia State Championship on Jekyll Island. Jason went on to play college golf on a scholarship at Wallace Community College for 2 years and then was recruited to Mississippi State for his final 2 years. He was an All American at Wallace for 2 years.

Jason's first job out of college was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in TV and Radio sales. While in Baton Rouge, Jason was President of the Lions Club and a member of the Rotary. He was a deacon at Broadmoor Baptist Church and a member of Baton Rouge Country Club. Jason met and married his sweetheart, Stephanie Cox in 2014 in Baton Rouge and their precious son, Patrick was born in 2016.

After the death of his father in 2017, Jason wanted to move back to Augusta to be near his mother. Being an only child, he felt he wanted to share his family's life with hers. In 2020 Jason was hired at Augusta University as an Associate Director of Philanthropy. Although he could raise funds for the entire campus, his passion was Athletics. He loved his job without measure. He never met a stranger therefore he could "encourage" those he met to donate to AU.

Jason was an active member of First Baptist Church. He was President of the Cason Bruker Men's Bible Class and sang in the choir for Christmas presentations. He was a member of the Augusta University Birdie Club and the Augusta Country Club.

I am profoundly sad at the loss of my friend Jason. I talked to Jason many times over the last few years about myriad subjects. Mainly we related to each other as pilots. I flew with him two times on missions to pick up or drop off his aircraft somewhere for standard maintenance. I knew he was an accomplished pilot and he was well trained and his experience was both current and recent. His experience as a pilot was such that I would have trusted him to be safe fly me or a member of my family. Jason was a kind and gentlemanly person. He was intelligent and intuitive. He showed great love for his family and loved flying with them. He was loyal to his workplace, his church and his good friends. I am truly sorry for his family and friends who will mourn this so deeply. I am praying we can go from mourning to remembering fondly over the time to come. We can honor Jason by our devotion to God and showing kindness and support for his family and things about which he cared. God speed to you Jason.

Jason was one of the sweetest, kind hearted man we knew. Always a gentleman. We met Jason here in Baton Rouge through his golf membership at the Baton Rouge Country Club and he became a friend and patient at our dental office. My staff and myself loved seeing Jason during his office visits. He always brought a smile where ever he went. I know as his family you will grieve his loss and our hearts go out to you with prayers for God's blessings through these difficult days ahead and every day. We remember when he met Stephanie and then became a father to Patrick. He couldn't have been prouder and happier. He always, always spoke highly and lovingly of his family and his parents. With our sincere and deepest sympathy to Becky, Stephanie and Patrick. Dr Shep and Kay Platt

My sincere sympathy to Jason's family. I work as a Greeter at Wellstar. I would always laugh and speak to Jason on a daily basis. He was always friendly and had a joke about something. I was so saddened to hear what happened. The day before I was teasing him about being on the news . In my prayers to all. I will miss Jason !! RIP

I was lucky to know Jason and his dad. They were both great guys who I will never forget. Jason was so good to my boys and always a gentleman to my wife. They don´t make guys like Jason anymore. We will have all you in our prayers. Les, Dee Dee, Lee, and Davis Perry

I was privileged to know Jason when he worked in Baton Rouge. He was truly the most genuine and caring person I have ever known. I will always remember that smile that could light up a room.
God bless you, Jason. You will be missed.

I am privileged to say that Jason McKenzie was a friend of mine. Although he was 30 years my junior we shared a kinship that was oblivious to the difference in our ages.
Jason was a big and strong young man who could hit a golf ball as far as a mile, and with as gentle a draw as I have ever seen.
He had a gift for the game, but he also had a gift from God for genuinely loving people in a way that seemed to give you a peek into the face of Christ.
When he left Baton Rouge to return to Augusta we promised never to let the miles come between us. He was more than true to his word.
Jason McKenzie never forgot his friends.
We talked and texted as though he had never left.
He sent photos and videos of his family as each of them crossed milestones. He was proud of his family, and loved each of them dearly. And little Patrick was the apple of his eye.
But most of all he loved his Savior, and as painful as it is for us to lose him we must raise our eyes to heaven and say "well done my good and faithful servant".

To Stephanie, Becky and Patrick: Jason was truly one of a kind. He always greeted people with a smile. A real tribute to Becky and Don, was Jason´s faith. He loved the the Lord and truly saw the good in everyone he interacted with. Unlike so many folks nowadays, Jason was actually interested in what others had to say. He was such a talented golfer too. I´ll miss watching that patented draw he always hit off of the tee. When he had his putter going, look out! I´ll never forget him shooting 30 on the front 9 in the state amateur down at Idle Hour.
I also know that he loved Stephanie and was so proud of Patrick. Please know that the Fisher family will keep all of the McKenzies in our prayers.
