Mrs. Gill was born in Norvel, WV to the late Roy Lee and Regina Pearl Lilly Garten. She married the love of her life "Ted" in December 1954 and began her journey as a military wife. After living in multiple locations they settled in Augusta. Kitty and Ted enjoyed 64 years together prior to his passing. She was a long-time member of Martinez Baptist Church where she was active in the choir and with her Sunday School class. Mrs. Gill loved bowling, reading, and watching the Atlanta Braves. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Of the many roles Mrs. Gill undertook in her life, none brought her greater joy than that of "Nannie". Her grandchildren and great grandchildren have a treasure trove of special memories. There was always a fully stocked "snack" cabinet filled with a variety of treats to include favorites like "dry Cereal" and Maple Leaf cookies--of course no permission required to enjoy. The ever present jar of jelly beans or pitcher of lemonade she made special for them assured no hunger was ever left unsatisfied at her house. She spent countless hours judging diving contests at the pool, or hosting pool birthday parties. Staying up late watching the Braves is a passion instilled in many of them with a smile as they recall her calling each player by first name! TV nights watching "girlie chick flicks" always began with a 1,2,3 or 4 tissue rating in anticipation of how much it would make them cry. Baking holiday pies together became a cherished tradition. Christmas was always special! Each family member had their own special boxes, ribbons and tags that were saved and cherished year to year. Her beloved Snowmen decor in every room and beautifully wrapped gifts are forever memories. The last gift was always anticipated with fun and excitement as they wondered who Nannie would toss the special "Santa bag" to that year. She looked forward to attending every birthday party, School event , sporting event and dance program with true joy.
Mrs. Gill is survived by her daughters, Sharon Wallace (David), Rhonda Newman (Clyde) and Sandra Burgess (Howard); her grandchildren, Kileigh Jones (Michael), Kariss Winfrey (Blake), Kristin Bourdo (Phillip), Paige Henry (Richard), Gerald Stacks, Jr. (Amy) and Jeffrey Stacks (Julie); and by her great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Addison Jones, Crawford, Maddox and Wilkes Winfrey, Luke and Levi Bourdo, Nicole Henry, Ashlynn, Caleb, Jordan and Brantlee Stacks, and Joseph and Jenna Stacks. She was preceded in death by her parents and her 4 brothers and 7 sisters.
The family would like to thank MSA Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. Additionally we wish to express much gratitude to the many hearts from Just Like Family, Inc. that shared in the care of both Ted and Kitty through the years with special acknowledgement of two long term caregivers, Gloria and Ashley. Finally, a special heartfelt thank you to the additional loving care support angels, Jewell Bryant, Vera Washington and Johnnie Gordon that were truly a blessing to us all.
