After courageously battling a lengthy illness, Cecil H. Griffith, Jr. finished his race and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He was an honorable man who lived his life as a model of love, compassion, kindness, honesty, integrity, responsibility, and perseverance. Cecil was born on November 29, 1944 in Raleigh, NC to the late Cecil and Sadie Griffith. His close-knit family embodied the principles of strong emotional support, a sense of belonging, and resilience. All of these assets, coupled with faith and hope, were immensely vital in sustaining him during the later years of his life when he courageously battled a lengthy medical challenge that ended it. Cecil was educated in the public schools of Raleigh, NC. Upon graduation from high school, he became an “Aggie” at A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. There, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree that led to a productive career as an Industrial Arts teacher with Prince George County Public Schools for over thirty-five years. “Mr. Griff” not only helped students to become competent in carpentry and other industrial/ technological skills, but he also taught them respect for others, problem-solving, teamwork, and pride for the work they accomplished. He was truly the “agent of change” we all need to see in the world. Cecil leaves to treasure his memory: his loving wife - Cynthia K. Griffith; daughter - Tonya (Mark); son – Cecil III (“Buddy”); grandchildren - Mark, Lauren, Michael, Malachi, Cecil IV, and Matthew; sister - Cecelia Dennis (William); aunt - Ernestine Bostic; brother-in-law - Richard Kirk (Sandra) ; daughter-in-law Terry Griffith; sisters-in-law - Gloria Monk (Bobby) and Ethel Hicks; and a host of other close relatives and friends. As we bid farewell to Cecil, we are comforted by the strength of a legacy that will continue to sustain us. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 1:00pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 7010 Glenn Dale Road Glenn Dale MD 20769 with the Reverend Connie Reinhardt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should go to the Bowie Interfaith Pantry and Emergency Fund. Please make note of who is donating, and that the donation is in memory of Cecil H. Griffith, Jr.

Dear Cynthia, Buddy and Tonya: I have such fond memories of days of old in the years past as friends and next door neighbors here in Capitol Heights. Cecil was indeed skilled in carpentry, it was fun to watch Cecil build a work station in the garage for Claude. Let us hold on to the memories and I am in hopes that the blessings of family and friends will be a comfort to you in days, months and years to come. Your friend, Lawanna Robinson and the girls, Darlene, Crystal and Gabrielle.

Cecil was a brother inlaw that was always supportive and uplifting! He was very great at turning a negative situation into a positive one. He will be sorely missed. Love you brother! "RIP "
