Craig Skelly Obituary

Craig Cameron Skelly of Eldersburg, MD passed away at the age of 63 on Monday, October 7, 2024, comforted in his final moments by his son Eric. It's impossible to capture the ripple effect of Craig's personality upon others; he was a friend to any and everyone, always quick to share a joke or extend a helping hand. He will long be remembered for brightening countless lives with his warmth, positive energy, witty sense of humor, compassionate nature and grounded words of wisdom. Craig will be greatly missed by all. Craig was born on November 3, 1960, in Pittsburgh, PA to the late David and Marilyn Skelly. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1978, where he ran track & field and played drums. He was also passionate about repairing and restoring cars, a hobby that he continued throughout his life. In early 1985, Craig moved from Pittsburgh to Laurel, Maryland and started his career at Pressure Science, which eventually became Eaton Corporation. In August of that year, he married his high school sweetheart, and they raised their three children in Eldersburg, Maryland. He actively participated in many of his children's activities, ranging from coaching soccer and track & field to assisting the pit crew for Liberty High School's marching band. Craig had an illustrious nearly 40-year career with Eaton Corporation, where he started out working in maintenance and went on to assume a number of roles including Manufacturing Engineer, Production Manager, and serving most recently as the interim Plant Manager. He made a lasting impact on the company, helping to transform the Beltsville site through multiple acquisitions as well as establishing a plant in Batam, Indonesia. He was widely known, respected and cherished by his colleagues, often joking that he "came with the building" when asked how long he had worked at Eaton. He also found joy in spending time with family, mountain biking, dirt biking, outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, & skiing, watching Penn State and Steelers football games, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, attending church services and participating in a men's Bible Study group. Craig is survived by his beloved children Megan, Eric and Eli and former spouse (Karen of Cary, NC), as well as by his siblings Jim, Lynda, Brian and Dave and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, David and Marilyn, an infant niece (Emily), and nephew (Jon). Visitation will take place at Haight Funeral Home on Saturday, 10/12 from 2-5 PM and Sunday, 10/13 from 3-6 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Lifepoint Church in Reisterstown, MD on Monday, 10/14 at 10 AM, with procession afterwards to interment at Mountain View Cemetery. Following the burial, an informal remembrance lunch is open to all at Piney Run Park, Pavilion 2 from 1:30 PM onwards. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to one of the following organizations: The American Diabetes Association or Habitat for Humanity. Fond memories and expressions of love may be shared on Craig's tribute wall.
