Daniel Jones Obituary
Daniel (Danny) Tyler Jones (64) passed away on January 22nd, 2025, at his home in New Windsor, MD. He was born on May 5, 1960, in Washington, DC to his late mother Geraldine Forte, late stepmother Elise Jones, and survived by his father Ed (Sara) Jones. Danny, the most devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and in-law. He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Terri) Jones; sons, Garrett (Rachel) Jones, and Austin (Delaney) Jones; sibling, Janis (Tim) Long; nieces and nephews, Matt, Jessie, Jimmy, and Holly; in-laws, Penny (Chuck) Gamble; Gaye and late Steve Crouse.
Danny had a rugged exterior but a soft spot for his family and friends. His love for his wife shined throughout their thirty-six years of marriage. Danny was constantly calling, texting, or going to see the ones he loved. He was willing to help anyone even at times when he would spread himself thin. He had a knack for making friends with anyone. You were lucky to be in his circle and to feel so loved and attended to. He was a role model to his sons and many that are not related by blood.
Danny was the definition of hard working and known to be the jack of all trades. He retired in December of 2020 after spending 38 years in IBEW Local 26 working most of his time at Al Gleeson Electric. Many coworkers and close friends refer to him as constantly on the go and not being able to keep up with his hard-working drive to get things done, and get it done right. His hard work was spread far beyond his day job, where he was constantly lending a hand to anyone that had a side project or home renovation; Danny was there at the drop of a hat. He was very patient in his teaching nature when working with his sons and sharing his invaluable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, and do-it-yourself skills.
Danny was an avid outdoorsman where he shared his love for hunting with a vast number of friends and his youngest son Austin. He referred to it as his "outdoor therapy" and was the only time he really slowed down. Danny had many hunting spots, whether it was at his second home in Western Maryland, Mr. Steve's farm in Frederick or the various places Austin dragged him to. It took patience in the woods to hunt whitetail deer and wild turkey, and Danny thrived at it, through all the memories and "trophies" he collected through the years.
His love for the outdoors expanded to the various trips that he would take with his wife Terri and family. From the mountains to the shore, he visited places like the Grand Canyon, road trips across the Midwest, and simple trips to their second home near Deep Creek Lake, MD. Danny was adventurous, seeking out challenges like white water rafting, hiking the Rim-to-Rim trail with friends, and visiting twenty-three National Parks with Terri and joining friends and family on the way.
Danny had a wide range of hobbies, from riding motorcycles to horseshoes and darts. Riding Harley's with his friends and family has been a major part of his life for over forty years. Danny enjoyed playing horseshoes with his close neighborhood buddies a couple nights a week with some ice cold beer. Danny could be found hiking, biking, and fishing. He had a competitively infectious personality that would have anyone ready to trash talk even in a game of Catch Phrase or Redneck Olympics at the cabin. This characteristic was one of the many amazing qualities passed down to his sons.
He will forever be remembered for his immense love for his family, his ability to fix nearly anything, and his passion for any and all sports. Danny spent countless hours coaching his son's sports teams, and endless weekends on the road for sporting events. He was a passionate Washington Redskins, Caps, and Nationals fan that he inherited from his father. Sports were a constant in the Jones household from football, basketball, baseball, NASCAR, and tennis. You could hear him cheering either from the sidelines, bleachers, or the lazy boy depending on the event.
The family will welcome friends and relatives for a viewing between 9:30 to 11:00 AM, followed by a service from 11:00 to 12:00 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, MD.
Please join the Joneses for a celebration of life with light refreshments at the American Legion Sykesville Memorial after the service until 3:00 PM, 7327 Slacks Rd, Sykesville, MD.
