John Collins Obituary
John Patrick Collins passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, August 9th, 2025. Pat was born on October 30th, 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland to Edith and Joe Collins. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years, Joan Marie Collins, his four children, Chris Collins, Erin Hoffman, Annie Hannan, and Megan Collins Cassidy. Pat had nine grandchildren who he loved dearly: Brandon Collins, Tyler Collins, Kevin Hoffman, Katie Hoffman, Connor Hannan, Kyle Hannan, Taylor Hannan, Saoirse Cassidy, and Joseph Cassidy. Pat was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. As a young adult, Pat started Faith Home Remodeling, a home remodeling company which he ran until he retired in 2013. In 1972, Pat and Joan were married. After spending their early years as a family in Woodlawn, Pat poured his heart and soul into building their forever home in Ellicott City, Maryland. Pat and Joan raised their family in the home that he built, and he resided in Ellicott City until his death. Pat was an avid outdoorsman. After his retirement, Pat spent his time tending his vegetable garden and harvesting honey from their beehive. He loved spending time with his family, and vacationing with his kids and grandkids. Some of his favorite memories were beach trips with his family and spending time in Jackson Hole, Wyoming hiking in the Tetons. In addition to these hobbies, Pat devoted his life to serving others. He spent several weeks each year at a small village in Rwanda. Here he worked tirelessly to build schools, churches, water filtrations, and most importantly spread the gospel. Furthermore, in recent years Pat started visiting Montana as well to serve the poor and spread God's word in rural Montana. Over the years, in addition to these places, Pat served others doing work in Jamaica, Chile, Mexico, Burundi, Guatemala, and Uganda as well as doing hurricane relief work throughout the US. When he wasn't traveling, Pat was serving the Lord through his work with Friendship Baptist Church in Sykesville. Pat was passionate about his mission work, especially in Rwanda. In lieu of flowers (Dad would just say, 'Why are you wasting money on flowers that are just going to die anyway? I'm already home!'), the family would be honored to accept donations to either the church and school in Rwanda where Pat visited each year or the Baltimore Crisis Pregnancy Center which he supported for years.
