Richard Buchanan Obituary

Richard Hart Buchanan, age 81, of Woodbine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Columbia. Born July 13, 1943 in Baltimore City, he was the son of the late Joseph Winfred and Hermina Katherine (Hart) Buchanan. He was the husband of 48 years to Jeanne Carol Buchanan. Richard was a former Navy Veteran retired from many years of work at Rockwell International. When not spending time with his family Richard enjoyed being out on the golf course, cheering on the Ravens and beating his friends at poker. He was an avid gardener with his wife and enjoyed his time on family trips. Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Richard Scott Buchanan and wife Tabetha, Laura Elizabeth Defrancesco and husband Vincent, and Adam Joseph Buchanan and wife Nicole; sister-in-law, Marilyn Buchanan; and grandchildren, Lillian Buchanan, Natalie and Addison Defrancesco, and Emily and Kayla Buchanan. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 1 PM to 2 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, where a funeral service will follow at 2 PM. Inurnment is private at the convenience of the family at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers in honor of veterans in need.
