Richard Conrey Obituary

Richard Norwood "Skip" Conrey, 80, of Marriottsville, MD passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at home. He was born in Baltimore, MD on January 4, 1944, to the late John Plummer Conrey and Edna Margaret Peach Conrey. Richard, known by most as "Skip," grew up in Granite, MD. He was a proud graduate of the Howard High School Class of 1962, and then served in the US Army. He was a home improvement contractor who owned and operated his company, Conrey Construction, for over 40 years. Skip was an entrepreneur, most notably developing both tennis racket and golf club patents designed to improve player performance. He was recently featured in the 2023 Marquis Who's Who in America for his lifetime of career achievements. Skip was a lifelong resident of Howard County and was passionate about the heritage and farmland preservation of the county, in particular helping to restore and maintain the historic farm once owned by Judge John L. Clark in Marriottsville. He loved fitness and enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and pickleball, and looked forward to spending the winter months each year in Florida. Skip loved watching any sporting event and was an avid Ravens and Orioles fan. One of his joys in life was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren participate in their athletic, dance, and school events. He is survived by his daughters Carmen Roberts (Dave) of Marriottsville and Natasha Bockelman (Joel) of Overland Park, KS, sister Mary Menne of Sykesville, and grandchildren Rachel Roberts, Natalie Roberts, Savannah Hulsebus, and Gage Bockelman. He was predeceased by brother John Conrey and granddaughter Skylar Foster. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7pm on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Entombment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the four charities Skip supported: Disabled American Veterans, Wounded Warrior Project, Tunnels to Towers Foundation, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Carmen and family, my deepest condolences on the loss of your dad.
I enjoyed talking old cars with Skip, and listening to his (many!) stories. He was a great man.
I know your fine memories of him will help ease the pain of his loss.
