Mrs. Ruth D. Granahan

Ruth D. Granahan, age 98, of Westminster, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at BridgingLife's Hospice Dove House in Westminster. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Granahan who passed away in 1978. Born September 16, 1926, in South Fork, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Burnheimer) Douglas. She was the devoted mother of two children, Dennis Granahan and wife Debby, and Sherry Spencer and husband, Charles; loving grandmother of four, Angela Bove and husband Dave, Amber Gazarek and husband Jarrod, Joseph Ritter and wife Tara, Crystal Means and husband Antwoine; also, 13 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and husband and six sisters, Dorothy Cullen, Ruby Hechler, Almeda Jones, Wilda Hough, Shirley Alban, and Peggy Fresch; one brother, Meade Douglas; and one sister-in-law, Vivian Douglas. Ruth began work at the Social Security Administration immediately out of high school. She worked as a key punch operator and then a unit secretary. After nine years of employment, she resigned to raise her family. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends. A favorite past time was duck-pin and ten-pin bowling which was enjoyed for many, many years. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 11 AM to 1 PM at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville where a funeral service will follow at 1 PM. Interment to follow at Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
