Thomas P. "Mack" McGovern

Thomas Patrick "Mack" McGovern, 91, of Woodstock, MD passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was born on September 1, 1933, in Baltimore MD to the late Leland McGovern and Carrie (Huston) McGovern. He was the husband of 65 years to the late Margaret McGovern, also known to some as "Joan" or "Maggie". She passed away in 2020. Mack was a graduate of Calvert Hall. He then served in the US Coast Guard for four years. He retired after 35 years of service with BG&E as a machinist working in the plant. He was a long time member of St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Catholic Church, Woodstock where he and his wife had sung in the choir. He had a passion for classic cars. He was always working on and restoring his cars and enjoyed showing them. You could say he was a "mechanical tinkerer". He was a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club of America, National Capital Region 36. He was proud of his Irish heritage and celebrated it whenever he could. Prior to his wife's passing they enjoyed traveling which included multiple trips to Ireland and a trip to Hawaii given to them by their children for their 50th anniversary. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Sharon Ann and Mike Davis, Wendy Marie McGovern and Jennifer Lynne and Jeffrey Christian and grandchildren Brian Christian, Sarah Lau, Michelle Coley and Nicole Schafer and husband Ron. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Monday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville. A memorial mass, interment and celebration of life will be held at a date in the near future which will include celebrating his late wife's life who passed during the pandemic.
