William Egan Obituary
William Edward Egan passed away peacefully on Thursday January 30, 2025.
Bill was born in Baltimore City on July 11, 1936, to parents Helen and George Egan. He grew up on Belgian Avenue with his 3 adored siblings, Georgie, Barbara, and Jerry, all of whom predeceased him. Oh, the stories they could tell. Bill attended Mervo High School where he excelled in football and wrestling. He proudly worked on construction projects that included the Harbor Tunnel and the Bay Bridge. In 1959, Billy married Gwendolyn (Gengy) German and together they moved to Oklahoma, where he served with the US Army. They returned to Baltimore in 1963 to raise their family of four on Leith Walk.
Bill's professional journey began at Remington Rand where his passion for sales emerged. He progressed to Permatex and the exciting world of NASCAR. His gift for conversation made for an easy transition to the automotive aftermarket where he garnered national recognition as an Independent Manufacturers' Representative. In 1976, Bill proudly founded Egan Sales Associates and forged a deep respect in the industry from his Seminary Roundtop office.
Billy built lasting friendships at the Baltimore Athletic Club and developed a passion for boating at Bowley's Quarters marina. He joyfully retired with Beverly Cain to Ocean City where his door was always open. Bill's big heart and generous spirit endeared him to many. He loved playing cards, following Baltimore sports, celebrating his Irish lineage, dining out, spinning stories and sharing a cold beer with friends and family. Eventually he resided in Lutherville to be close to family.
He was loved and will be missed by his children, Genie Williams, William (Weegee) Edward Egan, Jr., Carrie Gallo and Gengy Lynn Vaikness and his sons-in-law, Michael Williams, David Gallo and Steve Vaikness. He is also survived by Sandi and Luke Thomas, Mark Cain (Donna) and Jennifer Dieter (Michael).
Affectionately known as Pop Pop, he will be remembered by his grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Rivlin, Ryan (Becca) Williams, Sydney, Kylie and Bailey Gallo, Timothy, Anna and Brigid Vaikness, and Sara Dieter. He was blessed with great grandchildren, Ramona Rivlin, Wyatt and Nash Williams.
The family would like to thank College Manor and extend heartfelt gratitude to Kimmy Miller for her loving care.
A funeral mass will be offered on Monday February 24, 2025, at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Church located at 200 Ware Avenue Towson. A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Bill Egan's name to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, MD Chapter https://give.cff.org/maryland/Donate (https://give.cff.org/maryland/Donate).
