Usha SHAH Obituary

SHAH, Usha

Usha Shah, of Austin, passed away at home on February 22, 2014 at the age of 62. She was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be forever missed. She will be remembered for her kindness, selfless nature, religious faith and family-centric focus. Reading and going for walks with her husband were among her favorite ways to spend free time.

Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Usha graduated from St. Xavier's College with a B.S in Microbiology. She met and married Himanshu in 1978, following which, they moved to Lexington, Kentucky where she started a career as a cancer researcher. She left the workforce to raise her son, Parag, and once he was older, started a second career as an educator. She spent 18 years working as an educator in Round Rock ISD, including Grisham Middle School and Westwood High School and found great joy in helping others.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Himanshu and their son Parag and wife Bindia of New York, NY, along with many family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 27, 2014 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.

I think of Usha often and wish she were still with us. I can still see that wonderful smile and hear her laugh. I have several items that she gave me and every time I see them, I remember her.

I think of Usha an awful lot, maybe walking in the neighborhood we shared or by doing a double take on people who at a glance remind me of her swift and deliberate stride or at work, where I've kept her notebook on my office shelf all these years. She just loved the library, and learning all about how to first navigate as a patron but then as a staff member. I would love to know how her family is doing, where they've landed and whether she has any grandchildren! Love to them all.

Usha and Himanshu were our good neighbor for many years. We were also blessed with Usha's smile and kind nature every day. A striking characteristic that Usha always showed was her genuine kindness from her heart.

I have seem Usha take regular walks around the neighborhood in Canyon Creek. I did not know her personally but whenever I would pass her by during the walk, she always had a big smile. My condolences to the family.

I had the pleasure of working with Usha for 2 years in the Westwood High School Library! She worked hard, pushed herself to learn new things, and could be counted on to share in a hearty laugh! Usha knew my deepest, darkest secret (my love of Bollywood movies) and would always share her collection of movies with me! To your family, I pray God's peace and strength in your time of loss.

Usha and I met at Westwood where she was respected and loved by all. I knew her best as my summer walking buddy. Usha loved to walk, morning, noon or night! We talked about her love of music, dance and travel. But most often we talked about our families. Usha so loved her "darling" Himanshu, her beloved Parag and wonderful daughter-in-law Bindia. I will miss her and think of her often when I walk.

Usha loved her job and she loved the students she worked with. She was a beautiful person who loved life. She spoke fondly of her son and her husband and was so excited when she shared the news her son was getting married. She always put a smile on my face when she stepped into my office just to say good morning. She leaves us with fond memories. I will always remember her smile and laughter.

Spending many lunches with Usha starting back in the early 2000's, we became very good friends. Usha was always very knowledgeable about most topics that we would discuss. Her experiences in life ran the gammet from working with kids with special circumstances, English Language Learners, the Chemistry lab that she directed, to helping in our school library. I have to say that she was an amazing woman, and such a special friend. You would always be surprised to find out what she kept in that brilliant mind of hers. I will truly miss her, and her contribution that she made to the students at our school. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, I hope you find comfort in knowing that she was loved by her friends at Westwood. Thank you Usha for allowing me into your life, I consider it an honor. God Bless you.

I will think of you every time I use my ruler (you know what that means). You touched so many lives in such a positive way. I pray that your family will have the strength they need to get through this very difficult time.

Usha was a dear friend. She and I would eat lunch everyday at Grisham. We would make each other laugh by telling our silly middle school kid stories. We were both happy to make the move together with Diana from Grisham to Westwood. She was always made sure that her students and those around her were taken care of everyday. I will miss the calm demeanor and positive personality that she possessed.

Ms. Shah was such a great co-worker. She was always so interested in how I was doing, so sweet, and so pleasant. I always enjoyed hearing about her family news, as well. Words cannot express the warmth you could feel from her spirit. You will be missed, Usha. You were an inspiration to me as a model of coping with life and what it gives you. Thank you for your influence.
