Charles McDowell Obituary

Charles Larry "Big Cat" McDowell, age 78 of Alma, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at Baptist Health in Fort Smith. He was born June 28, 1946, in Clarksville, Arkansas, to the late Earl and Geneva Edwards Childers. Charles was a graduate of Clarksville High School, served in the Navy and worked in the oil fields in Alaska. He enjoyed fishing, Harley Davidsons and he stayed busy working. He also loved spending time with his grandson outdoors. He was always happy around his family. Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Shrum McDowell; one son, Jay McDowell (Michelle Malott); two step children, Michael Shrum, Aletha Shrum; two brothers, Tony Childers (Francine), Jerry Childers (Tammy Smith); one aunt, Fran Carter; one grandson, Tanner Gray McDowell; and nieces and nephew, Tracy Noblett (Stacey), Samantha Childers and Bobby Childers.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at Cornwell Funeral Chapel in Dardanelle.
