Stephen Louis McKissack departed this earthly existence for his heavenly home on April 15, 2022, at his home in Conway, Arkansas. Steve was born on June 18, 1947, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Louie E. and Ouida G. McKissack. He loved his family, sports, the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Vilonia Eagles, and watching his grandchildren engage in all endeavors.
Steve graduated from Little Rock's Central High School in 1965 and earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Arkansas where he was a 1967 baseball letterman. He earned a Master's Degree in business and accounting from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Steve worked at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis from 1969-1973 and Arkansas Power & Light/Entergy in Little Rock/Russellville from 1974-2022. He was a charter member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church where he served as deacon and in other areas of church service. Steve and Heber also helped many people memorize Bible verses through Bible Memory Association.
Steve is survived by his wife of 50 years, Heber Farmer McKissack; his children, Marshall McKissack (Amy), Martin McKissack (Kelly), and Marie Kaiser (Marty); 10 grandchildren, Jackson, Grant, Carter, McKinley, Macy, Evy and Wesley McKissack, Kelsey Otts (Levi), Teryn Kaiser and Cece Kaiser; and two great grandchildren, Clara and Jonathon Otts. He was also looking forward to welcoming great granddaughter, Lydia Leigh Otts, in July. Also left to cherish his legacy, his sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Bill Brothers; and brother-in-law, Dr. Pat Farmer; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve kept statistics for Vilonia High School football and basketball for 35 years. He served as Treasurer of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department and helped found the Vilonia Community Recreation Association, where he coached youth baseball for many years.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, April 20 at 10 a.m. at Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway and streamed live on youtube. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UCA's Baptist College Ministry (conwaybcm.com/give or UCA Box 5164 Conway AR 72035), Woodland Heights Baptist Church (4215 Prince St. Conway AR 72034) or Charlie Roller Memorial (First Security Bank, 1137 Main St. Vilonia AR 72173).

Heber, I just saw the news about Steve. I send all my love and condolences to you and your family. Steve was truly a great soul and perhaps the most decent individual I ever knew. We saw each other at a book event and caught up a while back, but I wish we had visited more. All my very best and may God bring you and your family comfort and peace. Webb.
