Benny Wakayama Obituary
Salinas - Benny Wakayama, 84, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020. Benny was born in Hollister. He was a supportive and caring husband, father, and grandfather.
Benny graduated from Watsonville High School and attended Hartnell College. He married Marti in 1963 and resided in Salinas. Benny worked for Naturipe Berry Growers for most of his career until he retired in 2005. Benny was a member of the Buddhist Temple of Salinas.
Benny was preceded in death by his wife, Marti, parents Fusajiro Frank and Toshiko Grace, and brothers Bill and Larry.
He is survived by his daughters Laura (Richard) Wakayama-Lee, Andi (Jeff) Tachiki, and grandchildren, Lindsay, Ryan, Jonah, and Emiko.
Due to COVID19 restrictions, a live stream service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM. The YouTube link will be available on the Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel website when it is available.

Thank you Benny for all your years you devoted to the Buddhist Temple Salinas. When I started doing the Obon scheduling you were willing to work wherever I needed you... no complaints. You tirelessly chaired the
I-Help dinners for years. I know you wanted me to take over the chairperson spot but I was too busy with
Dharma School, YBA and then BWA and Temple. Fortunately or unfortunately, the I-Help program came to an end and you were able to finally retire. Thank you for all the little chats we had at church. Thank you for making my daughter, Nicole feel welcome at Temple. She always told me how you always greeted her with a smile and a hello. She wondered why you were so nice to her. She figured that you had a very warm and kind spot for "daughters". Andi and Laura, you had a wonderful and loving father. Namu Amida Butsu
