Jimmy Sumner Obituary
Jimmy Sumner, 70, of Woodlawn, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his home. Mr. Sumner was born in Carroll County to the late Kelly Warden and Etta Mae Bryant Sumner. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Sumner and Larry Sumner.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sumner of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Sammie Branscome of Woodlawn; father and mother-in-law, Wilson and Eula Sharp of Woodlawn; brother-in-law and spouse, Ronnie and Judy Sharp of Woodlawn; sisters-in-law, Patty Sumner of Austinville and Pam Sumner of Galax; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Woodlawn Church of God at 2:00 PM with Pastor Rudy Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharp Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Church of God on Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.

Barbara, Sorry to hear of Jimmy's departure to be with the Lord. The Apostle Paul said it is far better to be absent from the body and to be with the Lord. To us, Jimmy was one of the nicest people you could meet. We saw each other every now and then, but when we did, it like an old friend that we just saw yesterday. People like him are hard to come by and when you do, consider yourself fortunate. We will always miss Jimmy.

Barbara,Jimmy's passing came as a real shock to me.It hadn't been too long since I talked to you two and you seemed as giddy and in love as back when you were teens.I always was envious of the way you two loved each other through thick and thin.Jimmy was a person to be admired and he was friends with everyone.He will be missed.You were blessed to have such a love and a long wonderful life with him.My prayers are with you.Love you my friend. You don't know me, Barbara, but I worked side by side with Jimmy for his last ten years at the Arsenal. Our sympathy goes out to you and your family.
