Ruth Blair Obituary

In Loving Memory of
Ruth Caryl Blair
October 10, 1925 - January 28,2025
Ruth Caryl Blair was born on October 10, 1925 and passed peacefully at 99 years young on January 28, 2025. Ruth was raised in Parksburg, Pennsylvania surrounded by an extended family of multi-generations that helped shape the rest of her life. Ruth eventually moved to Bethesda, Maryland and met the love of her life, Frank C. Blair, JR. When they met, Frank was a US Naval Dental officer and was stationed at the local Naval Hospital.
They reunited in California where she attended UCLA and they married at the Westwood Methodist Church, on January 20, 1945. They moved to San Diego and after World War II, Frank and Ruth settled down and started a family in Frank's hometown of Long Beach, California. Frank started a thriving dental practice with the help of his new bride, Ruth, working behind the scenes to keep the finances in order. Shortly after, they started their family. The family became very active and involved in local organizations. Ruth and Frank developed a strong sense of community that went beyond participating in these endeavors, donating their time as well as resources for all who lived in Long Beach and Santa Catalina Island.
Ruth was known by those who loved her as a wonderful cook, the queen of the kitchen. With her feisty and quick wit, you always knew where you stood. When not busy running around after Frank and her four children, Ruth enjoyed reading, crocheting, card games, puzzles, letter writing and socializing with women she had met over the years. She will be remembered for her creativity, kindness, generous heart, dry sense of humor and deep love of family and friends. Holding all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was something that brought a smile to her face that will forever be missed.
Ruth loved her worldly travels with Frank, but her true love was at the heart of Santa Catalina in Avalon. First traveling there on a boat and later retiring at their beautiful and peaceful island home. Frank and Ruth loved recreational activities that included Marina Yacht Club and Long Beach Yacht Club boating activities, USC football, USC band events, Long Beach City College events, Long Beach State events and Angel baseball.
Ruth loved to provide support for any opportunity that nurtured the family's curiosity and development. Ruth always made it a priority to show up at family events. Ruth, living to 99, thoroughly enjoyed her ability to live long enough to be present and communicative in her children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's life.
Ruth is survived by her children: Frank Blair, III, DDS. (Wanda), Nancy Blair, Peter Blair (Donna), Robert Blair (Karen). Grandchildren: Christina (Dave), Scott (Genni), Tim (Kristen), Cara (Kris), Jonathon (Andrea), Travis (Kirsti), Casey, Lindsay (Brian), Kyle, Heidi. Great grandchildren: Jackson and August Keene, Thomas (Tommy) Blair, Walker and Clayton Blair, Lindley and Liam Petrat, Emma, Noah and Logan Blair, Keegan and Austin Blair, Andrew and Aubrey Vanderspek.
Viewing was held February 12th 7:00-9:00pm at McKenzie Mortuary, 3843 East Anaheim St Long Beach, Ca. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 13th at 10:00am at Covenant Presbyterian Church 607 East 3rd Street, Long Beach, Ca.
