Benjamin Peters Obituary

WINDHAM

Benjamin Peters, 94, passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 24, 2024. He

was born in Willimantic, CT at his family home on November 26, 1929 the son of

Zigmunt and Katherine (Czerwinski) Sokolowski. Ben shared an especially beautiful bond with his mother, Katherine.

Ben was a Master Electrician and served as a teacher and the department head of Windham Technical Vocational High School for 23 years alongside his son-in-law.

Early in his career, Ben worked as a general contractor at Pratt and Whitney and was subsequently drafted in the Korean War when he was deployed to Germany to maintain an important radio tower due to his advanced electrical training. Upon returning from the war, Ben entered entrepreneurship where he opened Bens Bar in Sprague, CT. He was a longtime member of the Polish Club in Willimantic, CT where he spent much time

with his family and community. He loved being a grandpa and jaju. Ben was an active supporter of numerous charitable organizations, and his devout Catholic faith was a guiding light in his life. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Willimantic, CT.

Ben married Olive (Dunstan) Peters on September 28, 1957. He is survived by his two children, his daughter, Lori Arpin and husband, Kevin of Mansfield, CT, his son, Mark Peters and his wife, Sylvia of Scotland, CT, three grandchildren, Sasha Gaulin and her husband, Adam Gaulin, Benjamin Arpin and his fiance, Tegan Ward, Kathleen Arpin and her husband, Pedro Jofre Lora, and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Lucas Gaulin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 1st, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Willimantic, CT. Burial of cremains will follow in Mansfield Center Cemetery on Cemetery Rd. in Mansfield Center, CT.
