James Robinson Obituary

COLUMBIA

James Jim L. Robinson, 76, lifelong Columbia, CT resident, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2023 surrounded by family. Born on March 24, 1947 in Manchester, CT to Belle and the late Lucius W. Robinson, Jr. Jim is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 45 years, Carol Robinson and

five children: David Veal, Lynn Veal, Tracy (Scott) Smith, Jill (Matt) Bureau and Jaime (Jodie) St. John and two grandchildren, Ian (MaryKate) Ohlsson and FIU nose tackle Jack Daly. Mick (short for Micky Mantle) his beloved golden retriever has already lost three pounds from the unexpected change in snack schedule. Additionally, Jim is survived by his siblings, Rick (Bobby Marz) Robinson, Doug (Denis) Robinson, Lynn (Mark) Schoppaul and many loved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Happiest when with family, Jim also enjoyed watching sports, golfing, playing cards, coin collecting and trips to the casino. Always smiling and ready for a laugh, Jim enjoyed family bonfires, sunsets on the hill and a good cigar. He was an avid UConn, Yankees and Celtics fan, as well as a frustrated Giants fan. Jim shared his great passion for American history with his children.

Jim attended Windham high school class of '65 and Mitchell College where he played baseball. He worked at Aetna as a computer programmer and soon decided that being a corporate desk jockey was not his passion. He then attended CCSU where he obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees and began a 34-year teaching career in Salem, CT, retiring in 2010. Known as Coach to hundreds, Jim shared a love for the game and was a positive influence and mentor to many.

Carol and Jim were always up for adventures together which included road trips with friends and family beach time in Hawaii, Cape Cod, Sea Isle City and Newport. Once the wood supply was stacked and ready for the winter, Jim could be found relaxing in his recliner spending time with his nearest and dearest with a secret stash of peanut m&ms within arm's reach.

Jim's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St. Willimantic. His funeral service will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Columbia Congregational Church, 325 CT-87, Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Columbia Congregational Church, P.O. Box 177 Columbia, CT 06237.

So sorry for your loss. Jim was a wonderful man. Know him from our days playing golf at Chanticlair golf course in Colchester. He came to my house for a day to clear a tree for his fireplace stash one fall. Could always be counted on to help out if someone needed it.
