Robert Dyjak Obituary

MANSFIELD

Robert Butch Dyjak, 82, of Mansfield Center, died peacefully following a long illness.

Butch was an Ironworker for most of his life, working on many projects across the state, including the Frog Bridge, Mohegan Sun, and the XL Center. He also was a self-taught craftsman. Among his many projects was the reproduction log cabin he built by hand, down to the wooden nails.

Butch is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Dyjak, sister, Janet Meikle, daughter, Shelley Hilton (Charlie), stepdaughters, Bonnie Pitts (Charlie), Cheryl Crotty (Tony), and Karen Hardegan, grandchildren, Ross and Shane Hilton, Jodi Lupien, Lilly Pitts, Kaitlyn Collins, Jon, Josh, and Alex Crotty, and Adam Hardegan. He also leaves behind two beloved great-granddaughters. Butch will be especially missed by his dog, Sandy, his constant companion and a great source of comfort for him.

Butch was predeceased by his mother, Rhoda Atwood, brother, Michael Dyjak, daughter, Cindy Seeley, and grandson, Nicholas Hardegan.

Butch and Mary Ellen shared many adventures together and loved their years in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, exploring the Second Connecticut Lake region and building an off-the grid vacation compound for family to enjoy the wilderness.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Butch's medical team, and to his many friends who helped him through the years.

There are no services at Butch's request. Memorial donations can be made to Peter A. Reilly Scholarship Fund, Ironworkers Local Union 15, 49 Locust Street Hartford, CT 06114.

My condolences to the family of Butch, he was a definite craftsman at all his projects. Met Butch around 1967 when we became Ironworker apprentices. Throughout the years I worked with Butch on many jobs, I can say that if you ask Butch for an opinion on something, he would tell you what his thoughts were without hesitation. He was a proud Ironworker and craftsman and that was quickly established wherever he went. I have many memories of Butch that will not be forgotten. May God Bless as Butch joins our brothers on " The Big Job“
