Dixie Hartless Obituary

Dixie L. Fye Hartless, 83, of Erie, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.

Dixie was born on Oct 27, 1941. Dixie grew up in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania and attended Reynoldsville/Winslow High School, where she met her (late) husband of 48 years, George. They enjoyed attending many school dances together, and graduated in 1961.

Dixie grew up horseback riding and she had a great love of animals. She and George adopted several animals throughout their lives, providing a loving home to senior dogs in recent years. Dixie enjoyed traveling throughout the country, and loved to camp with her daughter, Robin, and their dogs. She was both a Boy and Girl Scout volunteer for many years. Dixie also enjoyed doing crafts and embroidery, making many items for her family. She was a woman of faith, and looked forward to attending church every Sunday.

Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2010. She is survived by three children, Roger (Brenda), Robin (Sheldon) and Thomas (Ra'Nelle); seven grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey (Jake), Keenen, Nathan (Olivia), Trevor (Cassandra), Nicole and Ruby; and three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Herbert, and Adelaide.

Dixie's family would like to give a special thanks to Great Lakes Hospice for all of their wonderful care.

Private arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Road. One of my fondest memories, while visiting Uncle Clyde Smith in Reynoldsville, was horseback riding with Dixie. Too young to ride alone, she would place me on the saddle in front of her, and patiently walk around in circles to my delight. She was my heroine. May God comfort Dixie's family in their loss.

Dear Dixie's Family, I had many pleasures of fun times spent with your Mom and Dad in the Scouting program. They were kind, warm, generous and loving people. So sorry for your loss. Books will be donated to lending libraries in the Erie area in their names to benefit kids and express kindness in this world. Hugs for comfort and prayers for the return of all your happy memories with them. Hugs Sue Acks-Welsbacher
