James Robert Ruth

1939 - 2024

James Robert Ruth, 84, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024, surrounded by his family at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He was born in Punxsutawney on March 19, 1939, a son of the late James Ruth and Ethel (Lewis) Ruth.

Mr. Ruth was a member of the Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church.

On January 19, 1963, he married his sweetheart, Barbara Ann Saeger. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

Jim worked for T.W. Phillips Gas Company for 33 years.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and was a wonderful provider that looked after their every need.

In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by two children, Randy Ruth and wife Julie of DuBois, and Missy Ruth of Punxsutawney; two grandchildren, Daisy Stone and husband Jason, and Brock Ruth; one brother, Donald Ruth and wife Peggy of Andover, Ohio.

Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard Ruth and one sister, Jane Ruth.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from noon until 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Punxsutawney. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 10 at the funeral home celebrated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.

His ashes will be buried at Calvary Cemetery.
