Michael McCabe Obituary

Dr. Michael James McCabe of Derry, PA, formerly of DuBois, PA, passed away peacefully the morning of December 29, 2023 at Latrobe Area Hospital.

He was born on December 12, 1944, in Indiana, PA, the son of the late Joseph and Mariette (née Stormer) McCabe.

Micheal received his undergraduate degree from St. Frances College and went on to graduate second in his class at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He practiced general dentistry in DuBois, PA for nearly 30 years and later in partial retirement worked at the Latrobe Sunoco.

"Doctor Mike" loved music and started playing organ in bands at the age of 15 and continued playing with several local bands until his untimely passing. He was active in the local Chef's association, United Way, DuBois Community Days in the Park, Tom Mix Festivals, and the DuBois chapter of the American Red Cross. Among his many passions, he loved to cook and provided many a smoked turkey for local firefighters. "Doc" also loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family at Camp Dogwood. He made the most of his retirement, indulging in his many hobbies and passions while traveling and seeing family.

Michael is survived by fiancée/companion of 22 years, Frances Titus of Derry PA, sister Molly (née McCabe) Young of Venice, FL, son Joe (Melanie) McCabe of Fort Wayne, IN, son Brian (Katie) Stephenson of Ridgefield, CT, stepsons Joseph Titus and David Titus, both of Derry, PA, stepdaughter Karin Titus-Beeman of Derry, PA, and grandchildren Olivia, Trinity, Anton, Molly, Conor, Kara, Devon, Anthony, Kerianna, and Donovan with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (née Richards) McCabe, daughter Shannon McCabe, sister Kathy Jo McCabe, brother-in-law Robert Young, and son-in-law Terry Beeman.

Funeral services will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5 at the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Avenue, Derry, PA.

Molly and Family,

I am very sad to learn of Mike's passing. Mike was a classmate at Reynoldsville High School with my husband Michael McClure and myself. We always enjoyed the friendship we shared with your brother. Sending my sincere condolences to you and your family.

Dear Molly,

Sorry for your loss of Mike. He was my dentist early on. I always liked his easy-going attitude when we spoke with each other. He, and all of your family, will be remembered in my daily Rosary. Lori Nestor (CCHS '68) Stojek of Reynoldsville always spoke highly of your dear family members, especially your sweet Mother.

My Deepest Sympathy,
