Sharon Rivell Obituary

Sharon Anne Rivell, 75, of State College, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024.

She was born on May 26, 1949, to Michael and Hazel Shemas in DuBois, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Jackie Shemas Allen.

Sharon was a beloved wife, mother, teacher, and friend who touched the lives of many through her warmth, dedication, and passion for education. Sharon was a proud graduate of DuBois High School class of 1966 and DuBois Business College, class of 1969. Her academic journey continued at Penn State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1974 and a Master of Education in 1976. Sharon's love for learning was a cornerstone of her life, and she spent over 30 years teaching at South Hills Business School, shaping the futures of countless students. A committed member of Business and Professional Women (BPW), Sharon was also deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and found joy in the quilting club and the church's book group, "The Garden of Readin'." Sharon's strong faith and devotion to her community were constants throughout her life. She found great joy in spending summers with her family in Cape May, NJ, and frequently visited her hometown of DuBois, where she cherished lifelong connections.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Richard Alan Rivell, and their daughter, Anne Marie Rivell, both of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Charles Allen, and her nephews, Howard Allen and Gerald Allen. Additionally, Sharon leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Rodger and Lisa Rivell.

Sharon will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her dedication to education, and the love she shared with her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends will be received from 11-11:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 205 Garnet St., State College on Saturday, Oct. 19. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Carolyn Hetrick officiating. Sharon will be buried on Monday, October 21 at 1 p.m. in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois.

Sharon was a life long friend from our years at Olive Avenue school to DuBois Area High School. We shared many wonderful times together. We laughed a lot but cried together too. She added so much to my life and I will miss her forever. She was a wonderful person.
