Daniel Dean Peyton, 85, of Springport passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, October 3, 2025. Dan was born on August 31, 1940, in New Castle the son of the late, Creston and Olive (Chambers) Peyton.
A proud graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School, Class of 1958, Dan went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army.
A hardworking man throughout his life, Dan was a member of the United Auto Workers and held positions with Chrysler Corporation, General Motors, and Ford. He was also a longtime member of the First Bible Free Will Baptist Church and proudly belonged to the Eagles.
Dan was known for his deep love of fishing; he was a true master fisherman and found great joy and peace on the water. He also enjoyed playing euchre, going to the casino, and spending time with friends at Sparky's. A devoted sports fan, he especially loved cheering for the Indiana Hoosiers basketball team.
He is survived by his children, Daniel (Tina) Peyton II of Nashville, TN, and Laura (Gary) Whittle of New Castle; grandchildren, Justin (Jessica) Peyton of OH, Natasha (Jeff) Stoneking of Nashville, TN, Michael Whittle and Cresta Wickes, both of New Castle; great-grandchildren, Jasper Whittle, Ella and Colton Moore, Alex and Isaac Peyton, Caroline and Carson Stoneking; stepdaughter, Gina (Michael) Lowe of New Castle; sister, Dorthea Porter of Seal Beach, CA; nephews, Jay Midkiff of Seal Beach, CA and Brian Peyton of New Castle; niece, Cindy Peyton of Rushville; brothers-in-law, Sonny (Pat) Carter and Mike (Lynne) Carter; sisters-in-law, Joyce Papenhaus and Shirley Ellson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Peyton; his second wife, Patricia Peyton; and his brother, Doug Peyton.
Services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Jerry Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by the American Legion and US Army. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
