Ray Razor, 87, of New Castle passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was born January 8, 1935 in Prairie Township, Indiana, a son of the late Fant Johnson and Sarabelle (Atchison) Razor.
He was a 1952 graduate of Mt. Summit High School where he played basketball for the Mt. Summit Eagles. Ray retired from Delco Remy in Anderson, after 33 years of service. He worked in maintenance at Blue River Valley school system for 15 years, retiring from both jobs in January of 1987. Ray and Cheryl spent their winters in Fort Myers, Florida for 34 years and their summers in New Castle. While in Florida, Ray was an avid shuffleboard player, obtaining the title of "pro status". Playing shuffleboard for the Southern district, he won many tournaments and placed in many state tournaments, all over Florida. During the summer in New Castle, he played shuffleboard at Baker Park and tournaments at Greenville, Ohio and Lakeland, Ohio. He was also an avid fan of IU basketball, Indianapolis Colts and the Cincinnati Reds. Ray attended Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Florida and Luray Nazarene Church as a youth.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Cheryl Razor; children, Steve (Lynne) Razor of Huntington, Scott (Vanessa) Razor of New Castle and Bryan Razor of Richmond; grandchildren, Clint (Amy) Razor of Olathe, Kansas, Kaitlin (Nathan) Hartman of Mulberry, Florida, Bryce (Sarah) Razor of Shawnee, Kansas, Nick (Elisabeth) Razor of New Castle, Corey (Emily) Razor of Richmond and Valerie Razor of Hagerstown; great grandchildren, Lydia, Myles and Waylon; siblings, Mary Stone and John Razor; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Razor; siblings, Robert Razor, Richard Razor, Juanita Leffingwell, Hazel Keesling, Mayme Haynes, and Clay Razor, his twin brother.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mark Bussa, Steve Razor and Jim Becker officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. Tuesday until time of services at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share a memory of Ray at www.hinsey-brown.com.
