Thomas Boyer Obituary

Thomas Leon Boyer, 90 passed away on August 11, 2025 at Henry Community Hospital in New Castle.

He was born in Hartford City on September 12, 1934 to Claude Thomas Boyer and Lacy Pauline (Boles) Boyer. His parents precede him in death.

Thomas graduated from Hartford City High School in 1952 and served in the United States Navy.

He married Madonna (Shrock) in 1952 and started his family. In 1965 he married Donna (Siler) Libby in Jonesboro and they have celebrated almost 60 years together. He spent 57 years in the Hartford City area before retiring to North Vernon, IN. Moving back north in 2007 to be closer to their children, Tom and his wife, Donna, moved to New Castle.

Thomas worked construction with his uncle Roger Boxell until he was hired by Warner Gear in Muncie. He also worked at Chandler Tools in Munce and finished his working career at Fisher Body (GM) in Marion. He retired after 30 years of service in 1987. He was also a member of the UAW Local #977 and Church of Christ in New Castle.

Thomas joined the Moose Lodge in 1955 and proceeded through all the chairs and earned his life membership. He was Governor of the Moose Lodge in 1984. He served as the secretary for the Moose 9th District for two years. He started the Ritual Team in 1984 in Hartford City, and they would travel to other lodges so they could set up and perform the Enrollment Ceremony. He received his Fellowship Degree in 1962. When he moved in 1991, he was instrumental and active in the local Moose Lodge in North Vernon. He was Commander of the AMVETS in North Vernon for four years and is a life member. He also served as club manager for two years. He was dedicated to the American Legion and was also a life member of that lodge.

He was an avid fisherman. He had a small greenhouse, that he enjoyed gardening in and sharing his harvest of vegetables with his family and friends. He also planted flowers and had numerous apple trees around his property. He enjoyed life and was easy to get along with.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna JoAnne Libby-Boyer of New Castle; his children Linda Sue (husband, Bruce) Hidy of Hartford City, Thomas E. "Gene" ( wife, Monica) Boyer of Montpelier, Dennis J. Libby of New Castle and Jerry A. (wife, Teresa) Libby of New Castle, his grandchildren; Julie (husband, Harrold) Coffey, Shane Libby, Kyle (wife, Brooke) Libby, Ashlee (husband, Freddie) Ricketts, Rachael (husband, Jeremy) Miller, Melissa (husband, Nate) Fair, Ange'le Libby, and Connor Libby, great grandchildren; Brandon Tucker, Logan Libby, Landon Libby, Aurora Libby, Charlotte Rose Libby, Rickie Joseph Libby, Boston Libby, Simon Libby, Natalie Pennington, Carter Miller, Eleanor Miller, Cameron Cooley, Oren Ricketts, Alice Ricketts as well as many nieces and nephews.
