Willie Ryan Garrett, 81, of New Castle, passed away Saturday morning while surrounded by his family. He was born August 24, 1942 in Albany, KY, a son of the late Ryan and Mary Vera (Sell) Garrett.
A 1962 graduate of Clinton County High School in Albany, KY, he attended Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, KY. He came to Indiana in 1963, and worked at Modernfold Industries until he began working at Chrysler Corporation, at which he retired in 2000 following over 33 years of service. He also drove a wrecker for several years for both A-1 Wrecker Service and Popes Towing.
Willie enjoyed attending auctions, boating, jet skiing, antique tractors, NASCAR and collecting Coca Cola memorabilia. He was a member of Clinton Chapel in the Big Community in Albany, KY. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 38 years, Paulette Garrett of New Castle, whom he married June 14, 1986; his daughters whom he shared with his former wife, Gina (Mike) Lowe of New Castle, and Amy Garrett of New Castle; his step children, Lisa Neal (Jack Grizzell) of New Castle, Bradley (Robin) Phelps of Indianapolis, Candi Chambers (Tracy Smalley) of New Castle; grandchildren, Taylor Crandall (Chad Butler), Lauren Lowe, Mackenzie Garrett, Nick Ryan Crandall, Summer (Matt) Whelchel, Tyler Neal (Josh Van Bibber), Joshua (Maggie) Phelps, Austin (Carrie) Savage, Heather Savage, Trent Smalley; great grandchildren, Gracelynn Butler, Weston Whelchel, Owen Phelps, Rory Phelps, Finley Phelps, Waylon Savage, Raelynn Savage; a sister, Sue (Willie) Rose of Burkesville, KY; a sister in law, Debra Garrett; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Andrew Garrett; a daughter, Mary Crandall; two brothers, Bobby Lou Garrett and Keith Garrett; two nephews, Kenny Garrett and Terry Garrett; a niece, Tracey Clark; a sister in infancy, Doris Faye Garrett.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in Mt. Summit Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County Humane Society, 11 Midway Drive, New Castle, IN, 47362.
