Harry "Animal" Hall Anderson Sr., 87, of New Iberia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Born to Dorothy Hall Anderson and James Anderson Sr., Harry lived a life full of adventure, passion and love.
A visitation for Harry will be held from 11 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Evangeline Funeral Home, 314 East St. Peter St., New Iberia, Louisiana. A Rosary will take place at 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m.
Known affectionately as "Animal" to his friends, Harry was a devoted big game hunter, making 13 trips to Africa where he pursued and successfully hunted a remarkable array of wildlife, including a giraffe, elephant, lion and leopard. His adventurous spirit extended to fishing, where he found joy in the serenity of the water.
Harry's legacy as a loving father and grandfather shines through his family. His grandchildren, who fondly called him "Nanook," were a source of immense pride and joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife Liz Buteau Anderson; daughters Leslie Anderson (John Michael Farrahar) and Inger Anderson Gauthier (Darren); son Eric Anderson; stepsons Rocky Buteau (Michelle), Randy Buteau (Anne), Trey Buteau (Cheryl); stepdaughters Kay Breaux (Brian) and Lindsey Dugas (Dwayne); and former son-in-law Rob Wimberley. He also leaves behind his brother Robert E. Anderson (Judy).
Harry was preceded in death by his son Harry Anderson Jr.; parents James and Dorothy Anderson; and brothers James Jr. and Alonzo Anderson.
He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Dawn, Brynn, Abby, Evan and Madison, as well as great-grandchildren Justin, Jamie and Zuri, who will forever cherish the memories of their beloved "Nanook."
In celebrating his extraordinary life, we remember a man who lived fully, loved deeply and shared countless adventures with family and friends. Harry's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
