Funeral services were conducted for Sedonia E. Moore, 85, at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Star Pilgrim Baptist Church, 423 E. Pershing St., with Rev. Donald L. Wright officiating. Interment followed at St. Thomas Baptist Church Cemetery-Neco Town.
Sedonia, affectionately known as "Tee" by her family and close friends, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, at Consolata Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. Born on May 10, 1939, in New Iberia, she was the youngest child of Clarence and Clara Moore, both of whom preceded her in death.
Sedonia grew up in a close-knit family alongside her elder siblings Ruby and Harold. Throughout her life she cherished the memories and values imparted by her family, carrying their legacy with grace and dignity.
She graduated from Jonas Henderson High School and pursued higher education at Southern University where she earned her bachelor's degree in sociology in 1965. After completing her education she returned home and worked as a substitute teacher in local elementary schools.
In addition to her teaching career, Sedonia worked in insurance sales for many years. She also served as the recreation director for SMILE Council on Aging, where she impacted many lives with her commitment to community service. Afterward, she returned to the insurance industry, from which she eventually retired.
A devout Christian, Sedonia was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church before joining Star Pilgrim Baptist Church. At Star Pilgrim she was an active and dedicated member. Sedonia served faithfully on the Women's Missionary Society and was a cherished member of the church choir for many years. A celebrated soloist, she was especially known for her heartfelt renditions of "Order My Steps" and "Jesus is Waiting," which moved and inspired all who heard her sing. Sedonia also held the position of church secretary for many years and was a valued member of the finance committee.
Tee lived a life filled with love and companionship, spending the last 18 years residing with her niece Phebe and nephew-in-law Harold Hayes, until her recent but short stay at Consolata Wellness and Rehabilitation Center. Her legacy of resilience and faith will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sedonia is survived by her nieces Phebe Hayes (Harold), Cathy Moore, Vicky Moore Simien (Patrick); nephews Philip Archon (Wanda), James Ray Archon; and nephew-in-law William Winters Jr. Tee also leaves behind a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, Godchildren and friends.
Sedonia was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Clara Manuel Moore; her sister Ruby Lee Moore Archon; her brother-in-law Willis J. Archon; her brother Harold James Moore; and her niece Phillis Archon Winters.
She will be remembered as a strong presence, now reunited with her cherished family members in eternal peace.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff and therapists at Consolata, Catherine Boutte, Earline Bell and Becky Etienne for their compassionate care and support during Sedonia's final days.
