Choon Ja Ha, 81, of Vineland passed Tuesday morning, April 20, 2010, after having been ill for an extended period of time.
A descendent of the Yi Dynasty, Choon Ja Ha was born in 1929 and raised in Seoul, Korea. She was one of the first policewomen in Korea before marrying the love of her life, Jae Ha, in 1953. In 1972, she and Jae moved to the United States (Vineland) with their two children. Choon was a businesswoman who owned and ran a Japanese restaurant in Philadelphia for many years, and one of the businesses still bears her name today. Choon's greatest enjoyment was traveling with her husband and baby-sitting her grandchildren. In addition, Choon was a brilliant cook and enjoyed teaching the grandkids how to make the traditional Korean dishes.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jae S. Ha; her daughter and her daughter's husband, Choon Hee and Terry Dean Sr.; her son, Seung Ha; her grandchildren, Terry Dean Jr. and his wife Gina, Jennifer Dean, Jaeson Ha and Danielle Ha; her brother, Yong Jong Chun; and her sister, Meung Ja and her husband Ok Hwan Kim.
Choon's gathering of family and friends will be conducted from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Road, Vineland, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Walnut Road, Vineland.
