JANE TOLA Obituary

Jane Anna (Hopp) Tola's courageous and inspirational journey came to an end on Monday, May 2, 2011.

She lived an inspiring life for 36 years as she cared for strangers, friends, family and her two beautiful daughters, with a passion for the human spirit and the belief of the goodness of everyone. She will be remembered for all that she did for many, many people and the courage she showed after being diagnosed with cancer more than two years ago.

Jane was born and raised in Newfield, where she graduated from Buena Regional High School, Class of 1992. She graduated from Berry College in Rome, Georgia, with a bachelor's degree and continued her education at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1998 with a master's degree in social work. Jane used her degree to help children at Vineland High School as part of the child study team.

Jane married the love of her life, Rob Tola, in 1999, and together they were blessed with two precious daughters, Jessica and Julia. Jane loved being a wife and mother and devoted her time and energy to sharing her passion for life with the three of them.

As a young girl, she participated in softball, basketball, ballet and gymnastics. Jane was an active member of her church and loved reading, inspirational writing and crafts. At college, she worked in the local community with the elderly and with young children. As a social worker at Vineland High School, she was an inspiration to at-risk kids and their families to help them improve their lives.

Amidst her fight with cancer, Jane traveled abroad, took trips to Disney World, visited family around the country and even sky-dived. On Easter Sunday she was visiting one of her favorite places, the beach at Ocean City.

Jane was an inspirational writer and amazing artist who loved travel, painting, reading, writing, the beach and life. Jane always looked for the good in all. Jane will be sorely missed by her husband, Rob Tola of Vineland, son of Marco and Monica Tola; and her two young daughters, Jessica and Julia. Other immediate family include parents, Joseph Hopp and Mary Ann Hopp; grandmother, Helen Porch; brothers, Joseph, Jeff and Jacob Hopp; sisters, Janice, Julie, June, Joelle and Jena; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In her diary, Jane said "With Jessica and Julia, I am always trying to teach them to acknowledge acts of kindness whether big or small because each one is a small beautiful gift from someone's heart." Jane would want us to acknowledge the acts of kindness, big and small, that she received from doctors, nurses, family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to her visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave., Vineland. Visitations will continue from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.

Donations in Jane's memory can be sent to Cancer Risk Evaluation: Dr. Susan Domchak, University of Pennsylvania, 3400 Civic Center Blvd., 3rd Floor, West Pavilion, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

Written condolences to the family may be emailed to [email protected].

Mrs. Tola was my counselor at Vineland High School from 10th-12th grade. She seen more in myself than I did at the time. She was a wonderful person and I know she truly cared about me. I cant believe she has been gone so long now. Condolences to the family.

I was extremely saddened when I heard of Jane's passing. I worked alongside of Jane when dealing with that part of her caseload involving my counselees,(formerly a counselor at Vineland High 9-10/ North.) I was always so moved by the way she spoke to our students when helping them through decision making involving school choices. It was wonderful working with Jane - so genuine and caring, always giving the students a fair shake in coming up with a plan. She was soft-spoken and kind in all her dealings on the job and grateful for others' kindness as well.
I know of the extended Tola family through my former residency on Chestnut Avenue, (Pat and Paula Tola, especially.) My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family at this time.

Jane was a truely amazing and inspirational person and I feel priviledged to have had her in my life and to have spent so much time with her - so many wonderful memories... Sixteen years ago today I named a star after her for her 21st birthday and never has a gift been more appropriate as she truely was a star who radiated love and warmth to all those around her. Her light will shine on in the hearts and minds of all those who loved her. My thoughts are with Rob, Jessica, Julia and all the Hopp and Tola families.

I supervised Jane during her tenure at Vineland High School. I knew her as an intelligent and caring person who always advocated for the students she served. She approached her very difficult job with confidence and a wonderful sense of humor. Jane went above and beyond for the sake of her students. May her little girls always be reminded of what a wonderful person their mom was. My deepest sympathies to Rob and family. God bless you.

John and I just heard the devastating news of Janes passing. John knew the Hopp family years ago. It is so hard to lose such a vibrant, unselfish person who has made such a difference in so many lives. Some in such a short time on earth makes a mark that is everlasting while others take a life time to begin. Our deepest heartfelt condolences to the entire family that has lost such a treasure. She will live on forever in the memories and goodness she has left all those she loved. God bless you all. John and Gail

Dear Tola and Hopp Families:

Our deepest sympathy to your families at the time of this great loss. It is always hard to lose a loved one, particularly one as young and vibrant as Jane and we offer our sincere condolences. We will always think of Jane as that active, cheerful preteen we once knew -- not so long ago -- as an inseparable part of that "gaggle of girls" who so lovingly accepted our own daughter into the inner circle of friendship. Though time and circumstance took us along different paths, we remain firm in the faith that Jane will be with us once again. May the Lord bless and comfort you with the assurance that this is so.
