John Elton Maven

AGE: 80 • Huntington, MD

Maven, John Elton, was born March 23, 1936, in Vineland, New Jersey to the late John Leslie and Girlee Maven.

John obtained his primary educational training from the Mizpah, New Jersey school system. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, John married the love of his life, Faith Bennett. From this union, they were blessed with four children. He attended the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology where he received technical training in civil engineering. In 1979, he became the proprietor of Elton Iron Inc. for 20 years.

He was a lifelong member of St. John AME Zion Church where he served in many capacities. In 2001, John and Faith, moved to Huntingtown, Maryland and joined St. Edmonds United Methodist Church.

Early on September 14, 2016, John's earthly journey ended and he began his eternal rest. Preceded in death, brothers William Burt, James Maven; sister, Delores Bryant; Godchild & niece, Rev. Dawn Mays-Hardy. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 59 years, Faith; three sons Vincent (Susan), Douglas (Janet), Kirk (Kathy); a daughter, Marcella (Stanley); 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 24 from 10 AM - 12 Noon at St. John AME Zion Church, 6892 Sewell Ave., Mizpah where services will be held at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at the Atlantic Co. Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to assist in providing recreational activities for the residents of the Alzeheimer's/Dementia unit at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Please make checks payable to "Charlotte Hall Veterans Home", include "In memory of John Maven" in the memo line to ensure donations are earmarked for the specified unit, and mail to: Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Attn: Kelly Lynch, 29449 Charlotte Hall Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
