Kirby D. "Slayer" Phillips, 61, of Vineland died Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, 2013, at Inspira Medical Center Vineland, following a period of declining health.
He was born in Vineland on Oct. 13, 1951, to parents Elmer Rubel and Selma Coleen (Rathbone) Phillips. The husband of Deborah A. (Jackson) Phillips, he was a lifelong resident of Vineland and a 1970 graduate of Vineland High School. He attended Cumberland County College.
Kirby worked as a sales representative over 25 years at Tri-City Paper in Vineland. An active member of Corvettes Unlimited, Kirby was a cruise coordinator for the "Cruise Down Memory Lane" held on Landis Avenue. He was always interested in cars, and this weekend will mark the first time he has missed the Wildwood Car Show. He was also a member of the North Italy Club in Vineland and the Quinton Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed hunting, motorcycles and the drag races. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother, Rubel Tommy Phillips (Toni), and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Sheri Marsh and Linda Taylor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton, on Monday evening September 23rd at 7 o'clock where friends will be received from 5 until 7.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are requested to the Animal Friends Foundation, Inc., 1370 S. Main Road, No. 138, Vineland NJ 08360. Written expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family using the funeral home website, freitagfuneralhome.com.
