Manfred Griebau, 80, of Upper Deerfield Township died Thursday morning, Sept. 13, 2012 at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland.
The husband of Irma (Schwarz) Griebau, he was born in Luneburg, Germany and was the son of the late Wilhelm and Gertrud Sacher Griebau. He was a college graduate who received his education in Germany prior to moving the United States in 1954. Mr. Griebau worked as a foreman at Seabrook Farms and was also later employed in Philadelphia in the food preparation industry. He also served as a driver for Greyhound Bus for several years and prior to his retirement, he spent 10 years working as a mechanic for the Cumberland County Office on Aging. He was licensed pilot who loved to fly his piper cub airplane. Mr. Griebau was a loving grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, he enjoyed working in his garden. He was a longtime member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bridgeton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children, Monika Garini of Upper Deerfield, Manfred Griebau Jr. (wife Debbie) of Millville, Deiter Griebau (wife Diane) of Hopewell Township, twins Peter Griebau (predeceased wife Linda) and Paul of Upper Deerfield, Bettina Pettit (companion Chris Smith) of Fairton, and twins Mandy Bottino (husband Jeff) of Newfield and Candy Smith at home; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister in Germany. Besides his daughter-in-law, Linda, and his grandson, Jeremy, he was predeceased by four siblings.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bank Street, Bridgeton, on Tuesday morning, September 18th, at 11 o'clock, where friends will be received from 9:30 until 11. The church's pastor, the Rev. Edgar Wiker, will officiate. The burial will take place privately and at the convenience of the family at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.
