David A. O'Brien, age 74, of Greenville, passed away Friday, August 1, 2025, at Corewell Health Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids.
He was born on January 6, 1951, in Rockford, Michigan, to Edmund and Dorothy "Sue" (Edsall) O'Brien, who both preceded him in death. A 1970 graduate of Greenville High School, he spent most of his professional career in sales at Greenville Printing Company.
Dave embraced life with enthusiasm and a passion for adventure. He found joy in hang gliding, skiing the slopes of Colorado, hunting, fishing, traveling and riding motorcycles-but above all, he loved the game of golf. He was a proud past club champion at both Greenville Country Club and St. Ives Golf Club, and a valued member of the 1970 GHS Class B State runner-up golf team, which was inducted in the GHS Hall of Fame in 2015.
He was also an avid card player and loved cribbage and euchre. Whether playing with family or friends, Dave's competitive spirit and warm humor made every game memorable.
Dave was a fun and generous uncle whose presence lit up every family gathering with joy and laughter. He recently fulfilled a long-held wish by visiting Manuel Linares, his former exchange student from Spain-a trip he had looked forward to for many years.
He was known for his great sense of humor and his unmistakable laugh-one that could light up a room and lift the spirits of everyone around him. His wit, warmth, and ability to find joy in everyday made him truly unforgettable.
In keeping with his generous spirit, Dave was an organ donor-his final act of kindness, offering hope and healing to others. His legacy lives on not only in the lives he touched but, in the lives he helped save.
Dave will be deeply missed by his wife, Lori (Kraft) O'Brien, with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage filled with love and laughter, his sisters, Charlotte O'Brien (Anka) of Maui, Hawaii and Rebecca (Steve) LeBeau of Northville Michigan; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Kenzi who offered him companionship and unconditional love.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held outdoors on September 6th from 2 to 4 PM at Taylor Hops Farm, the former Greenville Country Club clubhouse site, 925 S Marvel Drive, Greenville. Please bring your favorite memories, photos and stories to share as we honor and celebrate a life well lived.
Memorial donations may be made to Gift of Life Michigan or to a charitable organization of your choosing.
