Wilma Stidham

1944 - 2024

Wilma Stidham, age 79, of Greenville, went Home to be with Jesus on Monday afternoon, August 5, 2024 from Corewell Health-Butterworth Hospital after injuries sustained from an accidental fall at home.

The daughter of Woodrow & Minnie (Turner) Stidham, she was born on December 18, 1944 in Commerce Township, Michigan. One of six children, Wilma grew up in the South Lyon community and was a 1963 graduate of South Lyon High School.

Wilma lived a life in service to others… both in her work life with the United States of America federal government and in her personal and Christian faith life. She began her career with the former Veterans Administration (VA) -- now the Department of Veterans Affairs, then the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and retired from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

While at HUD, she served as her local council president of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), and over the years, she received many commendations for her work within the Federal government.

Wilma had also been a licensed real estate professional, and was still serving her community as a member of the Property Assessment Board of Review for the City of Greenville. She had been a member of the Hillcrest Free Methodist Church in Greenville, later Greenville Community Church, and for the last several years attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was instrumental in bringing the Gleaner's Food trucks to distribute free food to Montcalm County families in need and had helped kick-start an annual fund drive for the Salvation Army in the Greenville area after it having been dormant for many years. Wilma was also a champion bowler, having participated in league bowling locally and at state and national tournaments.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold E. Stidham and James H. Stidman; and her dear friend, Bonnie J. Gose.

Surviving are a brother, Glenn & Irene Stidham of Tennessee; two sisters, Marlene & Joe Huff of Brighton and Shirley Amero of Commerce Township; a sister-in-law, Cloe Stidham of Hillsdale; her dear friend, Janet Delamater; several nieces and nephews; and many dearly loved friends.

Visitation is from 12-1 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chaplain Micah Manore of Interim Home Hospice will officiate and a luncheon will follow the ceremony at The Candlestone Inn in Belding.

Committal services will be held at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday, August 17, 2024 at South Lyon Cemetery in South Lyon, Michigan (Directions from I-96: Exit 155 [155A from I-96 West] Turn right onto Pontiac Trail/Milford Road until you come to a dead end at 10 Mile Road; Turn right onto 10 Mile and follow until it becomes Lake Street; Turn left onto Reynold Sweet Parkway; Stryker Street will be on your left shortly after you turn onto Reynold Sweet Parkway.)
