Addelee Brown Obituary
Addelee Slayden Brown, age 101, of Maryville, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday morning, August 29, 2025.
She was preceded in death by long missed husband of 65 years, John Arthur Brown; her parents, James Anthony and Lucille Slayden; brothers, James Daniel Slayden, Edwin Blake Slayden, Claude Harrell Slayden; daughter, Kathie Brown Barkley; sister-in-law, Oma Lee Slayden.
Addelee raised three daughters, serving as room mother, scout leader and elementary school musical costumer. Devotion to church led her to be a Sunday school teacher, elder's wife (39 years) and church secretary for 22 years. Her passion lay in needle arts, clothing three daughters and five grandchildren. After retirement she especially enjoyed quilting, along with entertaining her adored grandchildren and dog sitting.
She is survived by daughters, Linda Brown Ohgren (Gunnar), and Melanie Brown Gordon; son-in-law, Bruce Barkley; grandchildren, Cory Gordon (Shawna Mullen), Rebecca Barkley Tolbert (Caleb), Anthony Barkley, Jessica Ohgren Langdon (Weston), Kelsey Ohgren Blalock (Mathew); great grandchildren, Emma Addelee Gordon, Theo Langdon, Barrett Blalock; sister-in-law, Carolyn Slayden; nieces, Judy Hayes (David), Lucy Cole, Mitzie Russell (Jerry), Lynn Carroll (Mark); nephews, Tony Slayden (Betty), Hal Slayden (Karen), Keith Brown (Jane); granddog, Henry. She will be greatly missed by family and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 6, from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at Maryville Church of Christ with funeral service following, Herb Byrd officiating. Interment will be Monday, September 8, 11:00 am at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: World English Institute, c/o Maryville Church of Christ, PO Box 5293, Maryville TN, 37802. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
