Ann Watrous Obituary

Ledyard - Ann Elizabeth (Patterson) Watrous, age 88, of Center Groton Road, Ledyard, has slipped quietly into the Kingdom of Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; and her beloved husband George, Monday afternoon, March 3, 2025 with family at her side.

The daughter of Sam Davis and Martha L. "Mattie" (Swift) Patterson of Nashville, Tenn., Ann was born April 8, 1936. Ann spent her youth growing up on the family farm, as did her eight siblings. She met, fell in love with and married the love of her life U.S. Army Sgt. George Watrous of Ledyard, who was seriously wounded and was a recipient of a Purple Heart while in Korea and sent stateside to Ft. Campbell, Ky. Ann and George were married March 8, 1952, in Springfield, Tenn.

Ann and George moved to the family's farm "Watrous Dairy" in Ledyard, upon his discharge from the military. They built their family home on farm property, raised three daughters and lived the remainder of their lives there together.

Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; and left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Peggy (Larry) Loomis, Nancy (Ken) Burrows and Doris Oudkerk; her three grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew and Cynthia; and three great-grandchildren, Willa, Grayson and Layla.

The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the caregivers in the E.R. and the 6th floor at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London; and the caregivers at Mystic Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Mystic for their outstanding patience, kindness and respect in caring for our mother in her final days.

Woyasz & Son Funeral Home of 11 Jerome Road, Montville, is assisting with the arrangements. A funeral service will be held for Ann at noon Friday, March 14, at the Ledyard Congregational Church, 722 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard. Interment will follow immediately afterwards at the Lambtown Cemetery on Lambtown Road in Ledyard. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in Ann's name.

Peggy, I remember your mother from when our families attended Groton Heights Baptist Church many, many years ago. Your mother was always very kind and sweet. It's good that you can find comfort in knowing you will see your mother in heaven again. Every time I drive down 117 in Ledyard past her home, it brings good memories of those years at church. God bless you.
