Arthur Arruda Obituary
Born in Westerly, he was son of the late Arthur P. "Hank" Arruda, Irene Arruda and stepson of Manuel Arruda.
Mr. Arruda had been employed at Electric Boat in Groton for over 20 years, having worked his way up from rigger to ship management. He also worked for Conservation Contracting. Mr. Arruda served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a past master of Asylum Lodge #57 in Stonington.
Besides his loving wife of over 49 years, he will be sadly missed by his son, Brett C. Arruda of West Hartford; his granddaughter, Erin N. Arruda; and grandson, Grant H. Arruda. He is also survived by his brother, Russell Arruda and wife, Denise; sister, Diane Goddard and husband, Harvey; stepbrother, Manuel Arruda and wife, Maureen; stepsister, Veronica Macamaux and husband, Gil; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts; and pets, Ellie, Stormy and Belle.
He was an active member of Central Baptist Church having served as a deacon, head usher and volunteering whenever needed, including traveling to Oklahoma last year on a mission trip. He enjoyed carpentry, bird carving, furniture building and landscaping and was an avid sports fan.
Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 2, at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, at Central Baptist Church, Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial with full military honors will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, 16 Elm St., Westerly, RI 02891 in Arthur's memory.
